After working on sketches of this design for months, I let the global pandemic shape it into a badge of courage and inspiration designed to be shared online; something that would make people feel powerful and uplifted. Combining the dual motifs of space (exploring new frontiers) and the bear (multicultural symbol of strength and healing) informed a message of courage in the face of the early days of COVID-19 upheaval and uncertainty.
