“In early 2023, I moved into an apartment with a roach infestation. Being squeamish around bugs, I found myself on edge most of the time, and my new home didn’t feel like home for the first few months. To comfort myself in the weeks between exterminator visits, I started repeating the phrase ‘no foes here’ like a mantra, reminding myself that though the critters needed to go, they were not my enemies. All of Earth’s creatures are part of the same ecosystem. That phrase took on a life of its own for me, and came to represent the energy I wanted to maintain in both my living space and my life in general.”
